The Single Parent Initiative

LEvnot Koach (To Build Strength)

We're very proud to be participating in UJA of New York's L'Evnot Koach (To Build Strength) Single Parent Initiative, which will help provide single parents with financial workshops, group supportive counseling, information and referral services, socialization, career counseling, parent workshops, programs for children, and much more.

Upcoming Events:

The Samuel Field Y will be hosting a Planning for your Children's College Education workshop, on Tuesday, June 13, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Mark Alpert, a compassionate and knowledgable financial counselor will discuss practical straightforward ways you can start saving and planning for your children’s education.

We will be serving a complimentary light dinner of kosher pizza and salad. Free babysitting is available upon request. Please plan to come 15 minutes earlier if your children will be receiving babysitting. This workshop is sponsored by the Single Parent Initiative but open to all parents.

The Single Parent Initiative of Samuel Field Y and Central Queens Y is excited to let you know we will be offering two new support groups for our single parent families!

Dates: Tuesdays:   2/21, 3/7, 3/21, 4/4, 4/18, 4/25 -

Time: 6:15- 7:30pm

The Single Parents Support Group will be open to single moms and dads who wish to gather together for support, understanding, and a time to share constructive strategies and local resources with other like=minded single parents

This Children’s Support Group will be open to children ages 10-14 and will offer a supportive group where children can learn new skills to express their feelings and explore healthy coping strategies to promote resiliency and acceptance

A $20 suggested contribution per family for the 6 week series includes dinner

For the convenience of our single parents:

  • A complimentary light dinner of pizza, salad and cookies will be served.
  • Choose to sign up for just parents, just children, or both.
  • Free babysitting will be provided for children up to age 9 if requested.
  • Groups meet for a total of six sessions
  • Free transportation assistance may be available if requested
