The Single Parent Initiative

LEvnot Koach (To Build Strength)

We're very proud to be participating in UJA of New York's L'Evnot Koach (To Build Strength) Single Parent Initiative, which will help provide single parents with financial workshops, group supportive counseling, information and referral services, socialization, career counseling, parent workshops, programs for children, and much more.

Upcoming Events:

Feeling overwhelmed trying to raise a family on your own? Our Single Parent Initiative will be hosting a Financial Tips for the Newly Single Parent workshop on Tuesday, January 24, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Samuel Field Y.

Mark Alpert, a compassionate and knowledgeable financial counselor for NYLAG will discuss practical strategies to manage your personal finances. Topics will include budgeting, separating bank and credit accounts, investing, and planning for your family’s financial future.

There is no charge for this event but you must RSVP ahead of time. Please enjoy a light dinner of pizza and salad as our guests. Free babysitting available if requested upon RSVP. This workshop is open all single parents, newly-single or not! Please bring your appetite and any questions you may have.

*NEW SUPPORT GROUPS!
The Single Parent Initiative of Samuel Field Y and Central Queens Y is excited to let you know we will be offering two new support groups for our single parent families!

Dates: Tuesdays:   2/21, 3/7, 3/21, 4/4, 4/18, 5/2

Time: 6:15- 7:30pm

The Single Parents Support Group will be open to single moms and dads who wish to gather together for support, understanding, and a time to share constructive strategies and local resources with other likeminded single parents

This Children’s Support Group will be open to children ages 10-14 and will offer a supportive group where children can learn new skills to express their feelings and explore healthy coping strategies to promote resiliency and acceptance

A $20 suggested contribution per family for the 6 week series includes dinner

For the convenience of our single parents:

  • A complimentary light dinner of pizza, salad and cookies will be served.
  • Choose to sign up for just parents, just children, or both.
  • Free babysitting will be provided for children up to age 9 if requested.
  • Groups meet for a total of six sessions
  • Free transportation assistance may be available if requested
