The Physical Education & Recreation Department is dedicated to the health, physical and social development of all members. Our pre-school, nursery and junior sports programs are designed to coordinate eye-hand, eye-foot, gross and fine motor and balance skills. Our adult and senior program is designed to keep those involved in shape and up-to-date on proper exercise and nutrition information.
Socialization, working at your own pace and having fun in a safe environment are the main goals of the department. Our staff is professionally trained to enhance the individual development of all who participate. We are proud to offer a well-rounded program for ALL AGES. You are never too old to exercise!
- PHYSICAL EDUCATION CONSULTATIONS
Our certified staff will come to you to supervise and teach programs geared to your clientele. We can add professional classes in exercise, fitness training, sports skills and recreational activities to your school, nursing home, business, club, etc!
- CPR & FIRST AID CERTIFICATION
The Physical Education & Recreation Department has staff that are Red Cross certified instructors in first aid, CPR, defibrillator and Epi pen (toddler/infant, community, professional rescuer, etc.). These courses will be offered throughout the year and can be done at the Y or at your site.
- LIFEGUARD & WSI CERTIFICATION
[at the Bay Terrace Center]
The Bay Terrace Center has staff that are Red Cross certified instructors in Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instruction. The courses will be offered throughout the year and can be done at the Bay Terrace Pool & Tennis Center or at your site. Please call Craig Lastres at 646-772-3784 for further information.

Parent participation required. Pay as you come. No pre-registration-Sneakers are required.

- AFTER SCHOOL FITNESS PROGRAM
Three Sessions: Gymnastics/Soccer, Basketball/Volleyball, Hockey/Wiffleball

Intermediate & Advanced
Through our trained staff, we offer a positive atmosphere to enhance the individual development of gross motor skills. The main focus is on safety, skill and teamwork.
- FAMILY FUN DAY HOLIDAY PROGRAMS
Ages 5 and under. If you are looking for a new and exciting program for you and your child, come join us for gym activities, arts & crafts and lunch. Pre-Registration Required. For further information, please call Carol at ext. 229.
- JCC MACCABI GAMES
Every summer, the Y participates in these "Jewish Olympics." We are always looking for Jewish athletes between the ages of 13-16 to join us for a variety of sports (volleyball, tennis, basketball, chess, golf, table tennis, etc.) in an experience that will last a lifetime. - CHILDREN'S BIRTHDAY PARTIES
For children of all ages-let the Y run your party. We can supply crafts, game activities or gymnastic/sport events, equipment and staff to supervise party and activities. Let us know what type of party you would like or call to just rent our space and you supervise the activities. Choose two hours on a Sunday and let the Y make your child's party a huge success.

- WEDNESDAY NIGHT TEEN BASKETBALL LEAGUE
As part of our Wednesday night lounge program, from 7:00-9:30 PM, we are forming teams for an in-house basketball league. This special program is sponsored by the Robert Speisman Memorial Basketball Fund. Teens in grades 7-9 participate in an organized, skill-building basketball league. Loads of fun. - ADULT EXERCISE & STRENGTH TRAINING
This program is a strength and conditioning class designed specifically for adults interested in starting a regular exercise program. Led by qualified and caring instructors. Classes begin with an invigorating warm-up and stretch, followed by a variety of chair-based exercises that focus on gradual strengthening and conditioning of the entire body. Pre-registration is required.

High energy, low impact fitness class for healthy individuals 30 minutes of aerobic activity, 30 minutes of strength training using hand weights and tubing. Mat work and stretching concludes the hour long workout.

- Aerobics for Arthritis (PACE)

Gentle exercises for every part of the body for people with arthritis to maintain joint range of motion and flexibility. This class is recommended by the Arthritis Foundation.
Working with Weights
Thursday, 1:00-1:50 PM
Increase bone density and muscular strength using body resistance exercises and light weights. Chairs are used for standing assistance and sitting exercises.

This class is for seniors who love music and dance. Each class if 45 minutes in length and will feature instruction in dance steps, arm and hand movements to country and popular music while seated.

- SENIOR SWIM [at the Bay Terrace Center]
The senior swim program is a 3-day per week indoor swim program for seniors only. Open swim time is provided at the Bay Club on Bay Club Drive, Bayside, 9:00 AM -12:00 Noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, during the winter months. Please call Eileen at 718-423-6111 for further information.
- SILVERSNEAKERS SILVERSPLASH SWIM
Activate your aqua exercise urge for variety! SilverSplash offers LOTS of fun and shallow water moves to improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. No swimming ability is required, and a special SilverSneakers kickboard is used to develop strength, balance and coordination.

League fees are $700 per team for the season
Manager must indicate preference of schedule when they register.
Maximum of 12 people, Minimum of 7 people per team. Roster must be in before the Season starts.
League fees include Referee fees, Uniform, and Trophy for Championship Team
