The Senior Center offers a dynamic social, recreational, educational program and support services for older members of our community, focusing on the continuing growth and enrichment of its members.

• A Variety of stimulating classes and small groups led by qualified leaders

NEW
- Bereavement Group - Tuesdays - 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM
For those people who have lost their spouses. Begins Tuesday, October 16 and continues for ten sessions. Pre-registration and interview required
- Lunch Bunch for Widow and Widowers - Thursdays - 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
Provides an opportunity for the recently bereaved older adult to socialize with others who have lost a spouse.
- Caregiver Support Groups
Available for those who are providing care to individuals with Alzheimer's Disease, dementia, and other related memory disorders. For more information, please call Alissa Pizzutiello at (718) 225-6750 ext. 331.

SOCIAL ADULT DAY CARE FAMILY RESPITE PROGRAM

The Family Respite Program provides adult day care to older adults with Alzheimer's disease or related memory disorders.  The daily activities, designed to foster socialization, mental stimulation and to improve quality of life include:

• Educational programs
• Chair exercise
• Reminiscence and mental enhancement opportunities
• Music and crafts programming
• Current events discussions
• Intergenerational activities

Family members can take advantage of four weekly support groups which are available to help cope with the strain of care-giving. Clients are charged on a sliding scale basis.  Limited transportation is available. Pre-admission screening is required. Light breakfast and a Kosher lunch are served.   

EARLY STAGE DEMENTIA CARE PROGRAM

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

The Early Stage Dementia Care Program offers a twice weekly support program to assist people with newly diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders, and who are aware of their memory loss.  Members participate in:

• Twice weekly therapeutic groups
• Integrated programs with the Adult Center
• Memory enhancement activities
• Educational programs
• Exercise and fitness maintenance
• Recreational day trips 

Family members can take advantage of four weekly support groups which are available to help cope with the strain of care-giving. Clients are charged on a sliding scale basis.  Limited transportation is available. Pre-admission screening is required. Members bring their own lunches, snacks and hot drinks are provided.

ABOUT NORCS

NORC is short for Naturally Occurring Retirement Community, a comprehensive supportive service program for seniors.  Typically, aging men and women need help getting quality care and support.  NORCs help older community members by providing them with a wide range of such services, from nursing and social work home visits, to assistance in obtaining home repairs and maintenance. NORCs empower seniors to continue to live independent lifestyles in the comfort of their own home and community.

NORC WOW,a Neighborhood NORC Supportive Service Program offers social work and nursing services, educational and recreational activities to all individuals 60 and over living in one and two family homes within the boundaries of Glen Oaks Village & 76th Ave on the North, 86th Ave on the South, Cross Island Pkwy on  the West and Langdale Ave on the East. Neighborhood  NORC Supportive Service Programs are designed to serve communities where a majority of residents have "aged in place." The program's goal is to help elders remain safely in their own homes as long as possible. NORC WOW is a Membership Organization.  For a nominal membership fee, you or your loved one can enjoy all the benefits of membership. 

Services for NORC WOW members include:

• Social Work Services available in the NORC WOW office or in your home including case management, assistance with entitlements, and information and referral services
• Nursing Services provided by North shore Long Island Jewish Health System are available in the NORC WOW office or in your home including blood pressure monitoring, patient advocacy, health and diet consultation, etc.
• Telephone reassurance
• Health education and fitness classes
• Socialization opportunities and support groups, cards and games, parties and special events, intergenerational programs with local schools
• Day Trips
• Volunteer opportunities

 Transportation provided for medical appointments and visits to local supermarkets provided by SNAP.

Deepdale CARES NORC Supportive Service Program offers social work and nursing services, educational and recreational services to all individuals 60 and over living in the Deepdale Gardens Cooperative. NORC Supportive Service Programs are designed to serve communities where a majority of residents have "aged in place." The program's goal is to help elders remain safely in their own homes as long as possible.

Free services for Deepdale Gardens residents include:

Social Work services include case management, meeting with family members, assistance with entitlements, and information
and referral services.

•  Nursing services provided by North Shore/LIJ Health System, include blood pressure monitoring, patient advocacy,health and diet counsultation.
• Health education and fitness classes.
•  Socialization opportunities include discussion groups, cards, games, knitting and crocheting crafts, painting and art,movie parties and  song sessions.
• Day trips within New York City to museums, aquariums and other places of interest 
• Round-trip transportation to the Deepdale CARES office for activities. 
   Limited transportation to medical appointments and low-cost transportation to local supermarkets.

NORC Supportive Service Programs are designed to serve communities where a majority of residents have "aged in place." The program's goal is to help elders remain safely in their own homes as long as possible.

Free services for Clearview Gardens residents include:

• Social Work Services available in the CAP office or in your home including case management, assistance with entitlements, and information and referral services
• Nursing Services provided by Visiting nurse Service of New York available in the CAP office or in your home including blood pressure monitoring, patient advocacy, health and diet consultation, etc.
• Telephone reassurance and food shopping assistance
• Computer workshops, health education and fitness classes
• Socialization opportunities and support groups, cards and games, and crafts, parties and special events, intergenerational programs with local schools
• Day Trips
• Volunteer opportunities
• Transportation provided for transportation to medical appointments, local supermarkets and the CAP office.
