A treasure exists in Bayside at the Bay Terrace Center. We offer Early Childhood programs that combine a
highly nurturing and supportive environment with exceptional skills of credentialed teachers, in state of the
art facilities, with a committment to the highest educational standards.

The Phyllis & Martin Barell Early Childhood Center at the Samuel Field Y is accredited by the New York State Board of Regents, Education Department of the University of the State of New York and licensed by the New York City Department of Health.

Purpose

Our programs are designed to offer young children an opportunity to play, explore, and engage in multi-faceted activities. Professionally trained teachers facilitate children’s growth through dynamic educational experiences. We provide a caring atmosphere in which children develop and thrive intellectually, socially and emotionally and where families feel welcome.

Instructional Program

Children explore language arts, science, math concepts, music and the arts. We also offer an introduction to computers and provide outstanding resources for gross motor activity and out door play. Each site has state-of-the-art classrooms and creative outdoor playgrounds. We celebrate Shabbat and Jewish holidays in specifically designated programs. In addition, both sites have developed additional enrichment programs including literacy and physical education that are offered throughout the year. Staff and parents remain in close communication through individual conferences scheduled during the year.

Staff

Teachers are licensed by the New York State Department of Education. There is a teacher and an assistant teacher in each class.

Early Childhood Services, designed for children from birth through age 5 and their families.
The Belfort Family Preschool Center at the Y’s Bay Terrace Center. Accredited by the New York State Board of Regents, Education Department of the University of the State of New York and licensed by the New York City Department of Health.

Our threes nursery programs can be customized for family need. We offer early drop off extended days,
after school options, mid-day pick up options, as well as  two, three, and five day options.

Our three year-olds ask why! We encourage a sense of wonder and inquiry with focused exploration in math,
science, literacy, as well as appreciating a love of language and reading - facilitating the development of
meaningful friendships. Not only do children grow, but families flourish at the Bay Terrace Center. Our programs
offer family festivals, community read alouds, and a dynamic parent association that plans and implements family
events throughout the year.

Early Childhood at Bay Terrace also offers five days from 9:00 AM -2:00 PM for three and four year olds.  
Three year-old's have to be 2.9 and Four year-old's have to be 3.9 by September.

UNIVERSAL PRE-KINDERGARTEN

Universal Pre-Kindergarten is for children residing in New York City. The program is processed
by an application system and is free of charge. Each class has a certified teacher and an
assistant teacher. Classes begin in September and end in June. The program offers a rich,
supportive learning environment where children can explore, discover, talk freely, build, create
and grow intellectually, emotionally and socially.

NOT QUITE NURSERY

Not Quite Nursery begins by offering toddlers two and three day options, where gradual separation
is accomplished quickly and lovingly. We take pride in our curriculum honing gross motor skills, as well
as fine motor skills. We offer arts like music and dance, and give our children an early entry into science
to create the joy of exploring, specifically designed for the youngest learners.

Not Quite Nursery provides 2 year olds with a chance to explore an expanding world while learning
independence. This 2-hour program introduces nursery school activities such as arts, dramatic play,
blocks, cooking and more. Parent or caregiver remains in the class and separates gradually as the child
is ready. Children enrolled in Not Quite Nursery do not need to be toilet trained.

Ages 2.0—2.8 as of September 1, two half days
Session Tuesdays & Thursdays, mornings, 9:30—11:30 AM

Three half days Session
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
9:30 AM —11:30 AM

ACTIVITY GROUPS

A parent or caregiver must accompany the child and participate as needed in these programs as well:

• Drop In Center
  
  Come on a weekly basis to a drop-in resource center for moms and tots.
  Meet other moms, share ideas and make new friends. Children will be engaged
  in age appropriate activities by trained teachers. Sibling infants are welcome.
  Pre-registration not required.
  

• Mom & Baby (under 1 year old)
  
  Come on a weekly basis to discuss issues valuable to parent, caregiver
  and young child. Facilitator will lead relevant discussions.
  Pre-registration not required.
